The story of Bhuj : The Pride of India is based on the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war. An air force airfield at Bhuj was destroyed in action, and the brave Air force officer Squadron Leader Vikram Karnik rebuilt the Bhuj airport with the help of 300 women from a local hamlet. That went a long way in helping India win the war.

The film’s lead actor Ajay Devgn sat down for an interaction with retired Wing Commander Vijay Karnik to get to know all the little details. These details make the movie more informative, realistic as well as entertaining.
The story is also about Sunderben Jetha, a social worker, who risked everything to assist the armed forces at this critical moment. It is also the story of Ranchordas Pagi, whose actions saved thousands of lives. The creators have paid meticulously attention to reproduce every element true so that it becomes a proper period film. The environment of 1971 has been recreated.

The film, which is based on true stories, serves as a timely reminder of the enormous bravery displayed not just by the armed troops, but also by regular women who helped win a war.

During an interview, Wing Commander Vijay Karnik was asked why he approved the film. The war hero gave the credit to Abhishek Dudhaiya, the film’s director. He said when Dudhaiya approached him with the idea of making a film based on the incident, he said that he had researched it and his team had spoken to around 50-60 women in Matapur.

That led to Wing Commander Karnik deciding to approve the project.
