On the last date for filing of nomination for the Congress presidential election, senior Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor, senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the upper house Mallikarjun Kharge and Jharkhand leader K N Tripathi filed their nominations.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on September 29 had met Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, as well as Rahul Gandhi, and then declared that he would not be contesting for the Congress chief’s post. He also apologised to Sonia Gandhi.
Meanwhile, another senior leader, Digvijaya Singh who was earlier speculated to enter the fray, pulled out of the contest.
