Former US President Donald Trump surrendered before a Manhattan courthouse in New York on Tuesday in the hush money case. In a watershed moment, Trump was formally arrested after he arrived at the court. His supporters gathered outside the court. Trump pleaded not guilty before the court.
The Former US President is charged in connection with the hush-money payments made in 2016. Notably, Trump is the front-runner for the 2024 Republican nomination. The former US President was to undergo the standard booking procedure of being fingerprinted – and potentially photographed, which would result in an all-time famous mug shot.
Last week, Trump was indicted by a Manhattan grand jury in connection with the case related to the 2016 hush-money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels. However, the specific charges are yet to be disclosed. The former US President denied all the allegations.
It is alleged that Trump made hush money payments to Daniels to not disclose their affair. In 2011, during an interview, Daniels revealed her affair with the former US President.
As per the Wall Street Journal, in October 2016, the then Trump’s lawyer, Michael Cohen, arranged a $ 130,000 payment to Daniels to keep her silent about an affair with Trump. Trump’s hush money payment to Daniels became public in January 2018. In February 2018, Cohen told the New York Times that he paid his own money to Daniels without Trump’s direction. In August of that year, Cohen pleaded guilty to a criminal charge in a Manhattan court and he was sentenced to three years in Jail.
