Travel and airline industry veteran Sanjiv Kapoor has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Jet Airways. He takes charge on April 4. This appointment comes after the airline brought in former Sri Lankan Airlines CEO Vipula Gunatileka as the chief financial officer.
Sanjiv Kapoor has over 20 years of experience in the airline industry, having worked with airlines in Asia, Europe, and the US as a management consultant and an investment advisor in the aviation space.

Sanjiv Kapoor said: “I am looking forward to getting back to aviation. Even though Jet Airways has been out of operation for three years, it still has a large fan base of loyal customers who miss it every day and can’t wait for it to take to the skies again.”

The   Indian High Commission in Tanzania honoured internet sensation Kili Paul on February 22. The content creator from Tanzanian is famous on Instagram and other social platforms for lip-syncing popular songs from Indian movies.

The Indian High Commission posted about the “special visitor” on Twitter who has “won millions of hearts in India”.

Sanjeev Sanyal joins as member Economic Advisory Council to PM

Economist  and historian Sanjeev Sanyal has been inducted as a full-time member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM).

Sanyal is widely known for his role as the global strategist and managing director at Deutsche Bank. He joined the Finance Ministry in February 2017 and is currently serving as the principal economic adviser.

Notably, the EAC-PM, which is an independent body constituted by the central government, advises the prime minister on economic and related issues. Sanyal had also advised the ministry of finance to devise economic policies during the pandemic.

The council provides its inputs regarding key economic issues from a neutral viewpoint. Since India’s independence, this council has been constituted multiple times with PM Modi reviving it in 2017. The current chairman of this council is Dr. Bibek Debroy.

Singaporean is new president of FATF

Singaporean  T Raja Kumar (left) has been named president of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the world’s anti-money laundering and anti-terrorism financing agency. His appointment is for a set two-year term, which begins on July 1. During the FATF plenary, he was chosen to succeed Dr Marcus Pleyer of Germany.

Raja’s appointment marks the first time Singapore is taking on the organisation’s presidency, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the Ministry of Finance (MOF) and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) said in a joint press release on Monday (Mar 7).

Raja serves as a senior advisor at MHA and has been serving as head of Singapore’s delegation to the FATF since Jan 1, 2015. He has also been a member of the steering group, which provides advice to the FATF president, since July 2018.

The FATF is an inter-governmental body established by the G7 in 1989 that sets international standards to prevent and combat money laundering, terrorism and proliferation financing.
