Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother, Heeraba, died at the age of 100 on December 30 morning. She breathed her last at around 3.30 am. She was admitted to UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre in Ahmedabad earlier this week due to health issues. As the news of her passing emerged, condolences and tributes began pouring in.

Modi’s mother Heeraba’s last rites were performed at a crematorium in Gandhinagar. Modi set fire to his mother’s funeral pyre and paid his final respects. A sombre Modi, flanked by brother Somabhai and other family members, bid a fond farewell to Heeraba.

Informing about her death, the Prime Minister posted a heartfelt tweet early this morning, “A glorious century rests at the feet of God… In Maa, I have always felt that trinity, which contains the journey of an ascetic, the symbol of a selfless Karmayogi and a life committed to values.”

President Droupadi Murmu expressed condolences over the demise of Heeraben Modi.

Condolences poured in from across party lines. West Bengal CM and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee took to Twitter to say: “Condolences to PM Narendra Modi on the passing away of his mother, Heeraben Modi. I pray that her soul rests in peace. In this hour of grief, I hope that he and his family members find strength.”
