Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti is an annual festival in India celebrated on 14 April in memory of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The significance of the day is that Babasaheb Ambedkar was born on April 14, 1891.

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti is an annual festival in India celebrated on  April 14, in memory of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The significance of the day is that Babasaheb Ambedkar was born on  April 14,  1891. Since 2015 it has been celebrated as an official public holiday all over India. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti is celebrated not just in India but all the World celebrates this day.

Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was a politician, economist, Indian jurist and social reformer who inspired the Dalit’s movement and campaigned against social discrimination for the untouchables (Dalit’s). He was independent India’s first law and justice minister and an architect of the Constitution of India.

Babasaheb B.R. Ambedkar’s first birthday was publically celebrated on April 14, 1928 in Pune, by social activist and Ambedkarite Janardan Sadashiv Ranapisay. He started the tradition of Babasaheb’s birth anniversary or Dr.B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti. On 14 April 1990, Ambedkar was awarded with the Bharat Ratna award. The same year his life-size portrait was also presented in the Central Hall of Parliament. The period from  April 14, 1990 –  April 14, 1991 was celebrated as the “Year of Social Justice” in the memory of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
