Paper Bag Day is celebrated every year on July 12. It is a day to spread awareness about the use of paper bags instead of plastic. In today’s time, the use of plastic has increased so much that pollution is at its peak, whether it is air pollution or water pollution. It is one of the most harmful things for our environment. The adverse effects of plastic bags on the environment have given rise to the use of paper bags.
The theme for 2022 plastic day is “If You’re ‘fantastic’, Do Something ‘dramatic’ To Cut The ‘Plastic’, Use ‘Paper Bags’.
In 1852, an American inventor Francis Wole established the first paper bag machine. Also in 1871, Margaret E. Knight designed another machine that could produce flat-bottom paper bags. She became famous and became known as the “mother of the grocery bag”. In 1883, Charles Stillwell invented a machine that could produce square-bottom paper bags with pleated sides that made them easy to fold and store. In 1912, Walter Dübner used a cord to reinforce a paper bag and add a carrying handle. Over the years, many inventors came and improved the production of paper bags.
