By Chanakya

This has been a Technicolor year. This was the year when some of the magnificent old made way for the exciting new; sometimes septuagenarian, yet exciting. And this was a year when we conquered an evil pandemic, waded to shore through a debilitating Covid, through apathy of authorities, yet managed to vaccinate the most people on earth, revaccinate them through boosters.

This has been a year of contradictions, of depressions and of adrenaline bursts, of how we saw our sports scenario burst into lively colours, of how we saw the economy falter, of how societal norms crumbled, of how the fabric of civility was cruelly divided with the bloody blade of hatred and of how optimism still remained as burning embers within the ashes of ruins.

We learned and forgot, and re-learned, we realised that the world goes on despite the dead, we understood how the melodies of the past will remain, despite their creators departing, we accepted the illusions of a future that might one day be, and we drank and danced in the joy of faraway victories.

We elected a lady President, we ran roughshod through uneven and often unfair electoral battles, and we were wiser for the losses we took in.

Indians have the ability to laugh in the face of depravity, we have the ability to climb the impossible climb, yet we, the same we, fail to keep our homes and our neighbours safe from divisive forces.

This was also a year of contradictions and untold words of sorrow that melded with our ambitions, slowly crippled in hate.

We will live, through another year, the year of 2023, and hope we would have taken lessons, from 2022. We hope our readers all the best.
