This year’s theme is ‘Rising up from drought together.’

Established in 1994, World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought was declared by the United Nations General Assembly. This day came into existence to raise public awareness around the solutions to combat desertification, especially in those areas that are experiencing a serious drought. In 1995, people across the globe observed World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought for the first time.
